Job Guidelines and Expectations

  1. Keep things where they are in Kristin’s home unless she asks you to move them.
  2. Be friendly with other staff, but do not be friends outside of work with them.
  3. Come to Kristin with serious issues you are having with other staff.
  4. When you are sick or there is an emergency, you must CALL, not text, (Enter name here) as soon as you know you will not be coming in.
  5. You must submit a leave request or vacation form to (Enter name here) for any non-emergency time off that you need.
  6. You must complete all household tasks before having downtime.
  7. Devices (Computers, phones, kindles) are not allowed on shift, even during downtime.
  8. You must wear scrubs (provided by Kristin), closed toe shoes, and have your hair pulled back.
  9. Let Kristin do what she wants without unsolicited advice
  10. You can respect Kristin’s lifestyle and decisions by not making any suggestions.
  11. Let Kristin work uninterrupted, unless imperative.
  12. Accept the fact that Kristin is a human being with a wide range of emotions and moods, while being professional.
  13. When Kristin’s body responds to a stimulus, do not take it personally, or as a reflection of Kristin’s feelings.
  14. You can wait for Kristin to tell you what she needs/wants.
  15. Do physical tasks one step at a time, at Kristin’s pace.
  16. Wait until Kristin finishes speaking before starting a task or responding.
  17. Tara (Eye-gaze computer) only has one tone of voice, do not take it personally if it sounds unkind.
  18. Talking with Tara can be exhausting for Kristin, so she can be brief. Do not take that personally, or as a sign of Kristin’s feelings.
  19. Payroll questions are to be directed to (Enter name here) and/or the payroll agency, not to Kristin.
  20. It is your responsibility to submit your payroll on time to ensure that you will be paid on time.
  21. Kristin tries not to talk about staff with other staff. You can help her by not asking her questions about your coworkers.
  22. Only Kristin has enough knowledge and expertise to hire staff. You can help Kristin by not giving her your opinion on a candidate and not asking her if she will hire them.
  23. You need to honor and respect what little privacy Kristin does have by not asking her questions about her family, friends, disability, money, passwords, and the like.
  24. Kristin does not need a caregiver and/or companion. You need to act like a support staff.
  25. Separate yourself from Kristin’s emotions while still helping her physically.
  26. Sleeping is not allowed on shift between the hours of 7am-11pm.
  27. One of Kristin’s most effective means of communication is email, so she will email you important information from time to time. You must read Kristin’s or (enter name here) emails all the way through as soon as you can and respond accordingly. Regardless, you will be responsible for knowing all of the information.
